"John is one of the most insightful young people you have ever met. He is a person who sits, watches, listens, takes in everything around him and then almost as if to catch you off guard, suddenly comes out with statements that seem to summarise the world, God's will and eternity in one sentence – and it all makes sense! What's more, John has an extraordinary capacity to take these insights and develop them into poetry.
One day, as you sit with him at the church picnic, you try to encourage him to allow the whole church to experience God through his poetry and he confesses to you that he has felt convicted by God on many occasions to do just that. But he hesitates, because from his perspective, the poems are just not quite right yet. He continues day after day, month after month to try to reach that point of perfection. That place where he will feel completely comfortable to present his gift to the church. But instead he finds himself getting increasingly frustrated. You think to yourself, if only John could understand that he very well may not experience the next level of inspiration if he doesn't give of that which he has already been given. If only someone would take the time to gently lead him on this journey.”
