Im Gegensatz zu einem weit verbreiteten Missverständnis des Begriffs kann Gerechtigkeit, wie sie in der Bibel beschrieben wird, durchaus parteilich sein. Sie hat nur wenig zu tun mit jener unbeteiligten Neutralität, die viele Menschen mit dem Begriff verbinden und die sie sogar auf Gott projizieren: eine seltsame Mischung aus einem britischen Richter und einem deutschen Beamten, der kontinuierlich Paragraphen zitiert, um das Leben komplizierter zu machen, als es eigentlich sein könnte.

Contrary to a widespread misunderstanding of the term, justice as portrayed in the Bible can take sides. It has little to do with the unaffected neutrality that many of us associate with the term and even project on God: a funny mixture between a British judge and a German bureaucrat who constantly quotes jurisprudence in order to make life much more complicated than it ought to be. Justice in the Bible is something altogether different. It is the active expression of God's compassionate love.
